Joining Melbourne Romance Writers Guild (MRWG) in 2016 has been an enriching experience, both for the warm supportive atmosphere and the invaluable knowledge shared. I am very proud and grateful to have my short story—Beyond A Glance included in the MRWG Taste of Romance Anthology.
Do you have a favourite genre in books (to read and/or to write)?
I will read any genre, if the story catches my attention. I love character driven stories that feature everyday issues like love, friends, children, parents, jobs, money and the unexpected, with a happy ending, of course. Heart-warming romance is my favourite genre.
Is there a genre you’d like to try writing and haven’t yet?
I would like to try writing an Australian Historical. I love reading about Australia’s development as a nation and, in particular, exploring the everyday lives of the people. There are fascinating stories of friendships between people of diverse backgrounds, where the wonderful spirit of mateship thrived, despite hardships we can barely imagine these days.
Can you tell us a little about your current WIP?
It deals with the dilemma of listening to what our head tells us versus following our heart in the search for love. It’s about finding the courage to risk our heart one more time when we’ve been badly hurt in the past, and getting that happy ending.
What made you want to be an author?
The earliest book I remember reading was Aesop’s Fable of the Fox and the Crow. I was fascinated by how the fox succeeds in flattering the crow out of the piece of cheese. I felt sorry for the crow but I couldn’t help admiring the fox’s cunning. This was a formative experience of engaging with characters and the power of storytelling to entertain and teach.
If you had one piece of advice for aspiring authors, what would it be?
Never, ever, ever give up on your dream. It’s the advice I give my teenage son with the writing bug and the mantra that keeps me going when the muse deserts me, and my characters declare anarchy. Oh, and your finished stories are art but, storytelling is a craft to be developed. Learn all you can about the craft. Sorry, that’s two pieces of advice.

The worn denim cupping his spectacular butt, and dark tee shirt clinging to his muscular arms, indicated he was ready to work. He glanced at her, shoulders relaxed and a wide happy grin lighting up his handsome face. Tingles of attraction sent shivers of delight shimmying down the back of Chloe’s neck to her ankles. His smile became knowing.
Damn.
Jake had caught her checking him out. Her cheeks flamed and she almost lost her footing on the ladder.
‘Hello Jake. Wasn’t expecting to see you here,’ she managed to say casually.
